Coach
Where are you from: I grew up all over the place! My dad was in the military, so we moved every 3-5 years. I was born in Bitburg, Germany and from there, moved to Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, and Great Falls, Montana before landing in Missoula!
What is your day job: I work for a Christian non-profit organization in town called Youth for Christ as the High School Campus Life Ministry Director. Essentially, we put on a weekly club meeting (similar to a youth group) and invest in students’ lives from all kinds of backgrounds and upbringings. I love it!
What do you like to do for fun outside of CrossFit: There’s fun to do outside of CrossFit?! No, but really, I love to be outside, especially when it’s the summertime. I love to play tennis and pickle ball, go hiking in the nearby area, and boat/raft/swim in Salmon Lake. Also, if there’s one thing I’m known for, it’s that I LOVE COFFEE. So I am constantly making coffee trips, grabbing coffee for people, or just enjoying a drive while I drink this liquid gold. Outside of all that, I just love to be around people; I love getting to know their stories, having deep talks, and just enjoying other people’s company.
What makes a good coach: I have found that in order to be a good coach, you need to LISTEN and you need to ASK QUESTIONS. Everybody is unique and so different from each other that in order to know how to coach each individual well, you need to listen to what their wants and goals are, and then continue pressing into that by asking more questions and getting them to think deeper about those goals. I think a good coach also needs to be someone who is humble enough to admit that they don’t know everything and are willing to continue to learn and further their own knowledge of CrossFit.
Why did you become a CrossFit coach: I love people and, even more so, I love watching people succeed. We live in a culture and society where it’s so easy to have negative self-talk and I want to be a part of a movement that reverses that. I want to show people they are capable of achieving their goals, that they have value and worth, and that they are worthy of their own 110%. People are awesome, and I just want to be a gentle reminder to them that they really are.
What is your favorite workout: Honestly, anything with a fun gymnastics movement! I love handstand walks, muscle-ups, and rope climbs, so any workout that contains some of those puts me in my happy place. I also like attempting random movements that push my skill levels such as a triple-under or performing high box jumps. Just, please, keep the Echo bike away from me.
What are your certifications: CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, CrossFit Gymnastics, CrossFit Judges Course, HSN Nutrition Coach.
